TRIPPING AROUND

They spotted the tower and knew it wouldn't be long
They could be right but then they could be wrong
Because as they turned the corner, it disappeared from view
But it would soon reappear this they knew

Fox-er-ton greeted them with a calm sunny day
This was most unusual for the Month of May
He stretched his back of 80 or more years
The pain of the effort bought a few tears

Fresh air filled the car as the door she flung wide
And the odours within had nowhere to hide
With walking sticks in tow they headed for the pub
With luck they would get a plate of good grub.

They downed a cool pint and ordered their lunch
Saying how the staff were a damn good bunch
With tummies now full and their thirst satisfied
They went back to the car to continue their ride

They took the road south through lush countryside
Some parts were narrow whilst other parts were wide
Age was against them, so their driving was pure
Staying well under 50 - trouble they could not endure

The old 54 Humber coughed and choked up the hill
As it slowly passed the remains of an old timber mill
A paddock of sheep were watching them pass
Taking a moment from chewing the green lush grass

They smiled at each other - oh how the day had flown
They would soon be back in that old people’s home
The car they had flogged they'd leave up the street
And walk the rest of the way on their own two feet.

Nobody would have missed them - nobody really cared
These great adventures is something they secretly shared
Their minds were still sharp and their spirit still strong
And they were thinking - what can we do next that is terribly wrong!!
