The Dinner

After I left College, I was nurse-receptionist and general dogsbody for a very nice young Physician. One evening he and his wife hosted a dinner for 6 of his senior colleagues (hospital_ and their wives. My doctor's wife had prepared a salmon mousse for the first course. After socialising, she went out to the kitchen and found that the cat had tried some of the mousse. She smoothed it over, but didn't have any herself when she served the first course.

A little later, when she went out to finish the next course, she opened the back door and saw the cat dead on the mat. Very upset, she went back to the table and confessed. The Doctors, being paranoic about their own health, took their wives and all rushed to the hospital and had their stomachs pumped. While the young wife sat in tears at home, there was a knock on the door. It was the next door neighbour, who apologised, and said as they could see whe was entertaining, they hadn't wanted to interrupt, but they had run over her cat as they backed out of their drive!
