THE HOUNDS BEY AT MY HEELS
THE FEAR THAT'S STRIKING THROUGH MY HEART
IS A PAIN THAT I CAN FEEL
I'LL RUN A MILE AND THEN CUT BACK
AND THEN I'LL CROSS MY TRAIL
AND MAYBE THAT WILL GIVE ME TIME
TO REST FOR JUST A WHILE
I HAVE NO DOUBTS
THE DOGS WILL FIND
MY SPOOR UPON THE GROUND
AND THEN I'LL HEAR THE MOURNFUL CRY
OF THE HUNTER AND THE HOUND
MANY TIMES I'LL RUN IN RINGS
TO AVOID THE SAVAGE DOGS
AND I'LL NIP PAST THE LOCAL CHURCH
THE PREACHER'S WIFE AGOG
THE HUNT WILL END
WHEN THEY CAN'T FIND
MY TRACKS UPON THE EARTH
SUNDAY COMES
AND THESE SAME MEN
WILL BEND THEIR KNEES IN PRAISE
AND ASK THAT GOD
WILL BLESS THIS EARTH
AND THE FOX THEY TRIED TO RAZE
