Good Ol' Rock'n'Roll with 'State of Mind'

A couple of days ago, I saw a news piece on TV about 60 yr old guys getting back into bands. GETTING BACK? I'm 62 and haven't got out! I still play in a 50's/60's Rock band called STATE OF MIND.

We've been together since the 1980's. I guess I'm the oldest (but not by much) - probably why I get called Uncle John. Anyway, we play all the old classic rock 'n' roll songs from the 50's and the swinging 60's as well as some more contemporary songs and a lot with a jazz feel.

The band is Chris Rowlands, bass and lead vocal, Older Bro Kevin Rowlands on guitar and lead vocals, Me - Uncle John B - on keyboard and BV's and Paul "The God Father" Blakeney on drums. We sometimes (as in these photos) bring in younger Bro Steve Rowlands on lead vocals and rhythm guitar and do the gig as a 5 piece.

Anyone who wants to come along and "get down 'n' boogie" will see us at the Henderson RSA Saturday 19th September  and 10th October (7.30 to 11.30), Papatoetoe Cosi Club Saturday 26th September (7.30 to 11.30), and we're playing at a R'n'R 50's night at the Avondale RSA Friday 27h November, where we will play heaps of good ol’ rock 'n' roll (songs made famous by Elvis, Chuck Berry, Lil Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis etc) and apparently spot prizes for... all sorts of reasons (best authentic dress, etc.) love to see some or all of you at one of the venues.

Be there or be square!
Uncle John B.
