On Sunday September 2nd @ 2pm I am launching a series of Cordon Walks to commemorate September 4th Earthquakes and all others. After 2015 heritage walks in Our City I am seeking to capture the essence of Christchurch, its Landmarks & Roots & remember those who came before and shaped our City.I am reminded of a friend and colleague Former Mayor Vicki Bucks 1993 words."Theres something very special about many older buildings. They often demand to be touched, almost stroked, and they seem to remember and help make real events of the past They also provide landmarks and points of constancy in a place that may feel like its always changing. They were there when you visited as a child. You know how you felt as you peered in the doorway.Your mother went there too Maybe your grandfather ..Its a sort of roots things almost ".I think of them all containing stories narratives that connect us to the collected legacy of all who have chosen to come here. We are all of migrant families and it is this our migrant history I want to remember & grieve for what we have lost.
