I came across a notebook a few days ago, one that I had recorded the costs of running my 1963 Vauxhall Victor. These costs were in 1967 the year we changed to decimal currency. The registration fee for the year was $18.70 and fully comprehensive insurance was $41.10. I was paying .40cents for a gallon of petrol (just under .09 cents a litre) A pint of oil was .23cents. A grease and oil change cost me $3.22 and this was carried out every 3 months. Spark plugs were .60cents each and I see that I had two NEW tyres supplied and fitted for the princley sum of $27.96!
This all sounds quite cheap compared to todays prices but then I note that I was earning $42.00 per week less tax!
