"A ripping yarn” is what the Independent has to say about
Glorious 39. Written and directed by famous playwright Stephen Poliakoff, this is a rollicking appeasement thriller based on fact. Glorious 39 is set in the summer of 1939, the dark clouds of war are gathering over Europe. But His Majesty’s Government is torn between opposing Hitler, and forming an alliance with him. When Anne discovers some recordings of secret meetings at her MP father’s country pile, she begins to worry. But when her friend, anti-Nazi MP hector Haldane, winds up dead, she really has cause for concern. Can one woman stop these sinister forces?
With a lovely cast and lavish costumes and period setting, this film makes for a fantastic wartime thriller.
Madman loves the legend that is Hitchcock and we bet you do too
So we are releasing a special combo in March –
The 39 Steps and
The Man Who Knew Too Much.
The 39 Steps is considered Hitchcock’s best British film, number four in the BFI’s list of Best British Films of all time, and number five in the Daily Telegraph’s list of 100 best Action/Thrillers of all time..... You really can’t go wrong!
The 39 Steps stars Robert Donat as Richard Hannay, a Canadian who meets a mysterious woman after a music hall mêlée. She begs for help, insinuating dark forces at work and Hannay agree to shelter her; but when she is murdered, he is squarely in the frame. Fleeing to Scotland Hannay finds himself on the lam with icy blonde Pamela, chased by both police and enemy agents, and in search of whatever the 39 Steps are.....
The Man Who Knew Too Much was one of Hitchcock’s most successful, critically-acclaimed films of his British period.

To ensure Bob and Jill will hold their tongues; the conspirators – led by the evil Abbot – kidnap their daughter, Betty. But Abbot and his cronies grossly underestimate the pluck of their captor’s parents....
