About the Author

Born in Nebraska, Nicholas Sparks and his family were fairly nomadic during his early years, finally settling in California. In elementary school Nicholas was a star track and field athlete and it was only when injury kept him away from training that the first spark of the writer in him showed itself. To keep boredom at bay, Nicholas wrote a novel which languishes still in his attic today – it was the ‘apprenticeship novel’. Two more followed (one never published, the other co-written with a friend and published). Then in 1995 Nicholas finished writing the novel that would change everything – The Notebook. At the time he was earning $40,000 a year as a pharmaceutical salesman. Warner Books bought the rights for $1,000,000.

Nicholas has since written 15 bestselling novels. There are approximately 55 million copies of this book in print. He lives in North Carolina (where all his novels are set) with his wife and five children.
