Afterwards

By ROSAMUND LUPTON

Published by Piatkus TPB on 1 July 2011 / RRP: $37.99

Last year Sister was a debut novel that attracted a stunning array of reviews, heralding a truly exceptional talent. Rosamund Lupton’s second novel is even better.

When love recognises no boundaries…

Black smoke stains a summer blue sky. A school is on fire. One mother, Grace, sees the smoke and runs. She knows her teenage daughter Jenny is inside.

Grace runs along the tree-lined driveway, which Jenny had walked down only a few hours earlier. She goes into the burning building to rescue her child.

Afterwards, Grace must find the identity of the arsonist and protect her family from the person who’s still intent on destroying them.

Afterwards, she must confront the face of evil and discover the limitless of love.

About the Author

Rosamund Lupton’s first novel Sister was the fastest selling debut novel by a British author in 2010. She has been a script writer for the BBC, working for numerous series for television, including Peak Practice and The Bill. She has also written two original film scripts, one a thriller and one romantic comedy. She lives in London with her husband – a doctor – and two children.

Praise for Rosamund Lupton’s previous novel, Sister:

Sister is a spine-chilling thriller, with an ending that’s sure to leave a lasting impression and maybe even prompt a few tears,’ – New Idea

‘Stunningly accomplished from first page to last, this is the most exciting debut thriller I’ve read all year. The suspense crackles, and the twists come thick and fast, but – more than that – it has a touching poignancy that brings tears to your eyes. Written with the power and panache of a young Daphane du Maurier, it’s devastatingly good, and announces the arrival of a truly original new talent,’ – Daily Mail

‘Truly marvellous! As compelling as it is stylish. Sister exists in that rare place where crime fiction and literature coincide,’ – Jeffery Deaver

‘Lupton’s crisp insights into grief and familial guilt are married to a confidently executed plot. Free from the genre’s more mawkish excesses, Lupton’s persuasive narrative voice is what keeps this classy debut on track,’ – Independent

‘A compulsive thriller with genuine originality. Very clever, very surprising, very touching. I devoured it,’ – Louise Candlish

‘Lupton’s debut is an exceptionally confident domestic gothic thriller... It also packs a devastating emotional ppunch,’ – Guardian

‘Original, spooky and clever, this thriller is utterly compelling,’ – Closer

‘This beautiful yet haunting debut novel describes the emotionally fraught and, at times, terrifying journey of two sisters and the ties that bind them,’ – Bella

‘This sophisticated psychological thriller is brilliantly written and utterly gripping,’ – You Magazine, Mail Online

‘This is an astonishing book and one of the best debut novels I’ve read in years,’ – www.raidochick.co.nz
