Hi Susana

I am an average size 12/14 but have a VERY potty tummy. What should I wear to detract from this?

Dear Diana

Without seeing you visually I can give the following advice generic advice which will help you with all of your shopping decisions.

Always remember your H & V's. Your horizontal (create width) & verticals (create length). Unfortunately, as we mature we become a bit more cuddlier around our waist and we become short-waisted. This causes for our tummy to protrude more than normal and it can cause a lot of challenges as the styles that used to make us feel good could be the same ones that accentuate our problem areas.

Be careful where your tops finish. If they finish at your more challenging area then you have created a horizontal line adding more width. Waistband less skirts and pants are also best for this same reason. If you are short-torso you should be wearing your tops out so this could result of wearing your tops just below your tummy however, if you are longer torso then tops which sit higher than your tummy could be more visually pleasing.

In addition, be cautions of your contrast between your top & pants. Again where the tops finishes and the skirt or pants start create a horizontal wider illusion.

Hope this helps you and yes, it can be challenging to dress and feel good when our bodies are changing on us. Please feel free to contact me if you require further advice.

Warm regards
