A Positive Self Image Will Increase Self Esteem

Article by Diane Corriette

Having a positive self image will help you feel great about whom you are and will also influence how other people see and treat you. Believing in yourself provides you with a positive glow on the outside, which other people will be naturally attracted to and want to be around.

When you have grown up with a negative self image you may believe that changing who you are is an impossible task but it really is not, in fact it has been done many times by thousands of people, all you need is the desire to make a start.

It all starts when you first acknowledge that the image you hold of yourself is really not a great one and needs to change. With that awareness and the acknowledgment to do something different you then begin to look at the thoughts you consistently hold and the feelings/emotions they create around your opinion of you.

You are looking for your current attitude and once you are aware of that you then decide what you would like to replace it with. So if you know you always tell yourself how stupid you are when you make a mistake (and saying that to yourself makes you feel bad) you change your language to something more uplifting like 'I give myself permission to make a mistake and learn from what has happened' plus as you say that to yourself really feel like you are forgiving yourself for the mistake.

When you can change your language then your attitude and outlook changes and once you begin changing your attitude then the way you think changes which of course changes the way you feel!

As well as trying to help yourself you will get plenty of help from books, seminars, hypnotherapy treatments and other information around the area of developing a positive self image and healthy self esteem, use this to further your goal.

However by adapting a new way of thinking and sticking to this new way of thinking you will eventually banish unwanted negative feelings and will automatically replace them with positive ones in your day to day life. When this happens your outlook changes and with your outlook, you change, where once you might have thought something would be beyond your capabilities you will now look at it in a different light and begin to realize it is within your grasp.

When you spend time improving your self image you will develop an understanding of what it means to you to feel great about yourself and you will begin to develop a clear picture about how you put yourself down so you can stop doing that. You will also find that you become far more reflective and change will not seem so much of a threat to you, in fact eventually you will learn to embrace it.

Once your positive self image is in place you will notice that it also contributes to your overall self esteem. Events and circumstances become easier to handle and you do not spend so much time feeling down or dwelling on the negative.
