NZ Made Merino is Affordable and Fashionable

Finding New Zealand made clothing and hand knitting yarn is becoming more difficult. For great quality New Zealand made merino and merino possum clothing and hand knitting yarn look no further than The Wool Company, who offer garments and accessories to clothe the whole family.

The Wool Company are a company dedicated to supplying quality New Zealand made products at reasonable prices with an emphasis on building strong relationships with their customers, by giving good service and friendly advice.  Managing Director Margot Riach says “We like to think we offer good old fashioned friendly helpful service that is often lacking in retail stores today”.

The Wool Company manufacture a range of their own knitwear and merino tops and buy in other reputable New Zealand brands like Native World, Upland, Zenza, Silverdale and Koru to name a few.  The Wool Company’s online store is easy to navigate and kept updated on a regular basis. You can download a pdf of their product catalogue or use the web shop facility on offer.

Described as multi channel retailers by Managing Director Margot Riach, The Wool Company is a great example of successful diversification possible when utilizing the strengths of the key people in the company.  Margot’s parents  Gordon and Janet  Riach established a country wool buying business over 50 years ago.

Gordon spent many years researching ways to add value to wool in New Zealand, to improve the returns to farmers. More than twenty years ago he saw a need for low cost 100% wool knitting yarns and began selling mill over runs to the local knitters. This proved to be popular and by the early 90’s Margot having gained a Business Studies Degree with a major in marketing, returned to the business and was selling yarn by mail and through a small store at the front of the woolstore.

This small store was replaced early in the new millennium and so began an expanding range of New Zealand made merino and merino possum clothing catering for men, women and children. The website that had been established in the mid 90’s was given a complete facelift. The initial plan was to cash in on the burgeoning tourist trade New Zealand was enjoying at the time, but having hit a sizeable object along the way in the form of 9/11, The Wool Company decide to change tact and market themselves domestically.

This tact worked well and The Wool Company ‘s shop, mail order catalogue and website continue to grow. They send knitting yarn and merino and merino possum clothing  to not just the far reaches of New Zealand, but worldwide. Eighteen years ago The Wool Company sent out 500 catalogues featuring fringes of yarn, this year they sent out a full colour fifty page catalogue to 28,000 customers worldwide.

Having spent over half a  century  in the wool industry The Wool Company are passionate about wool and along with their suppliers are very committed to supplying  quality New Zealand made wool  clothing.  So check out their website today at www.thewoolcompany.co.nz or call them for a FREE COPY of their Catalogue on NZ  freephone 0800 60 70 10
