Dancing is good for the mind, body and soul. It is social, physical and great fun. If you haven't dusted off your dancing shoes in a while, it is high time you did.
Music is extremely evocative. There is nothing like hearing your favourite song to give your mood a lift and set your toes tapping. Dancing is liberating, a physical expression of how you are feeling and a wonderful way to get some exercise.

There are countless forms of dance, all with their own style. If you already have a favourite, find a class or club and get started. If not, do some research. Ask yourself what feels good – would you like to dance with a partner or alone? Would you like to learn something completely new? What dance classes or clubs are nearby?

Full body benefits

The beauty of dance is that it develops strength, flexibility and co-ordination. It stimulates your brain to remember patterns and will give you plenty of reasons to smile, laugh and sing.

You do not need to be an expert straight away. Many dance schools and clubs offer classes to teach you the basics. If you don't have a partner and enjoy ballroom dancing for example, there will be other singles there and you can take turns dancing with new people.

If you would like to do dance-based exercise instead, there are plenty of options available. Attending a dance class will help give your day or week structure, and it is an excellent way to meet like-minded people and make new friends.

Aside from comfortable clothing and shoes, there is very little equipment needed, so you can start dancing straight away. You can expect to have a few aches and twinges as your muscles learn new skills, but the strength gains and increased fitness will make it well worthwhile.
