While in many areas of our modern life there apear to be many more freedoms for the individual, which is good, but there is also the problem where no one is considered to be responsible in such areas as politics, public service etc. This is especially seen in such areas as local-bodies , regional councils etc, and will effect many Grownups in the form of burgeoning rates taxes and so on. In some areas core facilities are allowed to decay until enviromental licences force them to be updated at great cost to the ratepayer. On the other hand, it seems that councils can always commit funding for the flashy facades and aspirations often largely supported only by the council members themselves. THE FOLLOWING POEM was written by me when I was much younger and hopefully it will evoke some contemplation as well as entertain a little:
' FOR MAN TO NOTE'
As Summers days grow shorter and Autumn's breezes stir the trees,
A busy music floats on the air, the song of millions of bees,
As the many thousands of workers carry the nectar to their hives,
Their song belies the urgency of their work , if they may survive,
They slave away throughout the day with the suns first shafts of light,
And strive on until overshaddowed by the cool grey hand of night,
And those that fall by the wayside will struggle to fly once more,
For unimportant is the death of one, when all important is the chore,
The honey-cells must be many, and full, when Winter's cloak will fall,
For the honey is their force of life, there must be enough for all,
And it is done, not for any one, not for greed nor pride,
The work is done by, and for all of them, for survival of the hive,
I admire the honeybee order, but am also quick to see,
There is no need to copy it, because I am not a bee!!
