Living in the small sea-side village of Amberley Beach and actively involved in the local committee, I also write a local news letter and deliver it to the 100 homes here. Recently I have been involved with trying to help this community to help itself more by organizing a Civil Defense post and Neighborhod support here, this, with struggling results.
I find it increasingly frustrating that so many are just leaving it up to a few to ensure everything is in place for them and they are safe, regardless of any coming event, my belief is "It's not if, it's when" but that message appears to be falling on the deaf ears of people of all ages.
Do any of the readers have any ideas how I might be able to stimulate the good folk here into some degree of action or is the complacency I am experiencing pretty much normal?
I research information, use light and dear I say it, sometimes not so light written articles coupled with photos, along with arranging experts in the fields such as Police and CD personal to attend meetings from time to time but I always have interest only from the same 'already converted' residents leaving about 120 people who just don't seem to care enough about their own family wellbeing let alone their community.
I know that when the time comes, everyone will expect to receive assistance but as our village is situated over 5km from Amberley township and right on the coast I fear that if we are not prepared and properly organized, our survival rate following a major event will be very low as many folk here are in their 80s so without pre prepared evac in place, many just won't make it but, NO ONE IS LISTENING!!!!!
Any ideas?
Thanks, Warren
