A present day necessity that is good for the brain.
Studies show conclusively that people who work longer and continue to contribute live longer and retain better brain function. However, working longer and having to postpone retirement often seems daunting. Today, for financial reasons, there are few of us able to retire at sixty five. There are also many more of us over 50’s than there ever have been before and we are all looking for income and hoping to create a meaningful legacy.
Consequently, it is important to think about financial and lifestyle options after 55. The old concept of retirement from work is no longer useful; good planning and a positive focus is important if we are to live an active and meaningful existence beyond normal retirement age.
If you are one of those people who would prefer to remain actively engaged and contributing to the workforce for longer than you had previously imagined, there are two workshops you will enjoy. You can attend either or both – there is a discounted price for both.
‘Working Longer: Working Wiser’ on Friday 18th November is a one day workshop primarily aimed at those working in companies who would like advice from three specialists: Kaye Avery, career coach and aging workforce specialist; Martin Hawes, financial advisor and wellknown columnist and author and Gerri Power, resilience coach and mentor. These three experienced speakers will present practical and researched information and advice.
‘Conversations on living well’ on Saturday 19th November is a less formal one day session featuring presentations and facilitated conversations around the topics above with the addition of Keith Hargis talking about employment rights and myself, Janis Grummitt talking about how to keep your edge as you age by building a stronger brain. Don’t retire, rewire!
I hope to meet you there!
