How does your mum or dad hold up in winter?
Are you OK?
That’s what the new St John medical alarm asks if your mum or dad isn’t up and about as they should be.

Winter can be challenging for older members of our families, especially if they live alone. It’s cold and wet, which increases their risk of slipping. Winter illnesses can hit them hard. If you’re concerned about someone who is at risk of falling, may becoming increasingly frail with age, or who is unwell this winter, you should consider a St John medical alarm for them.
With just one press of a button, St John medical alarms connect directly to St John. St John personnel immediately call to check if everything is OK. If there’s no reply, or if there’s an emergency, St John will send an ambulance.

And now, thanks to St John, further safeguards can be put in place if needed. St John has just extended its medical alarm range to include the option of a daily activity check for those needing added reassurance and peace of mind. It allows for help to be summoned even if, due to a health condition or accident, your mum or dad can’t push the alarm button to call for help.

The heart of the new St John service is the combination of an in-built activity sensor and monitoring process. The activity sensor checks that the client is up and about in line with their normal morning routine. If after an hour no activity is detected, the alarm begins asking the client “Are you OK?” If this is not acknowledged, a process is initiated to determine the client’s welfare and a medical response is mobilised if required.

The activity sensor can be enabled or disabled remotely by St John and is included as a standard feature of the new St John medical alarm, so there is no extra charge for this service.
If you know someone who would benefit from this extra level of assistance and would like a demonstration from one of our uniformed St John representatives, please call us today.
A free trial period of up to 1 month applies for all St John medical alarms*. In addition, ongoing funding for a medical alarm may be available from Work and Income (see www.workandincome.govt.nz for more details).
