Regular Columnists on GrownUps
Medication adherence – whether people take their medication on time - is a key issue for both people on medication and the health industry. To be effective medication should be taken exactly as prescribed. Strict regular intake is vital with some medicines.
Most people on chronic medication function perfectly in society - provided they take their medication on time. However current research shows that in New Zealand MORE THAN 80% of all medicine users occasionally MISS A DOSE of their medication. So we can safely say that 100% medication adherence is extremely difficult if not impossible.
Taking medicines every day - for the rest of your life - is hard enough. Always remembering to take them at the right moment and in the right dose is almost impossible or at least extremely disruptive for daily life.
Daily life should not revolve around medication
The Pillkey® unites three key elements for medicine users: a detachable unit for the pills, an electronic unit with information about the pills and other medical data, and a medication intake schedule for up to 15 different medications each with an alarm.
