Bite back at arthritis!
Arthritis pain is a problem for thousands of New Zealanders. While science continues to search for a cure, relief is taking new forms.
With the population ageing in most countries, arthritis is set to become one of the major health issues of the 21st century.
Osteoarthritis develops over long periods, during which cartilage around joints roughens and becomes thin. Extra “synovial” fluid, which lubricates the joint, can be formed, causing swelling, and as the bone tries to repair itself degeneration continues and the tendons become affected. Eventually inflammation leads to severe swelling and pain.
So what can be done?
Shark Cartilage for Joint Relief

Cartilage from sharks is providing more and more people with relief from arthritis symptoms. In laboratory studies shark cartilage has been shown to contain chemicals that inhibit blood vessel formation, which allows it to act as an anti-inflammatory agent. In human clinical studies, significant improvement is seen in patients suffering from arthritis.
While the reasons for its effectiveness are not fully understood, it is thought that shark cartilage’s high concentrations of “mucopolysaccharides” and chondroitin sulfate are responsible. Mucopolysaccharides form a thick gelatinous material, which is found in many places in the body and functions to lubricate as well as "glue" cells together, while chondroitin sulfate works synergistically with glucosamine to assist in rehabilitating damaged cartilage in your body.
Sir Bob Charles Sportsvel Deer Velvet
Sir Bob Charles has used deer velvet for nearly 30 years. Sir Bob has a keen interest in Chinese medicine and deer velvet is the main component in many Chinese and Korean health tonics.

We all know Sir Bob’s exploits on the golf course, and he credits Sportsvel with his wonderful performance at the New Zealand Open in 2007 – where, at 71, he became the oldest player ever to make a cut on the European Golf Tour., and finished as the 2nd placed New Zealander.
Deer velvet feeds your tendons, ligaments and cartilage. Deer velvet is also thought to boost the immune system, improve cholesterol balance and help normalise blood pressure.
Green Lipped Mussel Extract
Green lipped mussel extract has been used worldwide for 25 years and is supported by extensive scientific research. In particular the unique processing method used to make Seatone Green Lipped Mussel Extract ensures absolute purity of the mussel extract as they use no chemicals or solvents in their processes.
It is very important when choosing a mussel product to ensure the product uses mussel extract, not mussel powder – the difference and the effectiveness will differ greatly.
Seatone capsules contain 100% mussel extract that is unique to the green-lipped mussel that can only be found in the clean waters surrounding New Zealand. Published research has demonstrated the beneficial effects of Seatone capsules for joint care.
Probably the best thing you can do to help manage arthritis and joint pain is to ensure you get enough gentle exercise, a good diet and have a positive outlook. Now, you may well be able to add shark cartilage, deer velvet, or green lipped mussel extract to that list.
