I want to share horror story of my dentures, so I know the same thing won't happen to you.

5 years ago, I had all my teeth out. A decision I found hard to make as I have many friends who have had dentures and they all advised me against it, but my teeth didn't look as nice as they used to and they were falling out anyway.

So i had them out and some dentures put straight in.

I will never forget the first time i looked into the mirror. I remember thinking "who is this horse stairing back at me?". I looked so fake! I had these big square teeth, which were artificially white, and made my top lip stick out! So i asked my dentist if the teeth could be changed but he said I would have to go back to the chap who made them.

So, i called him up and went along to his "premesis". When I arrived, I could hardly believe what i was seeing! The place that made my dentures looked like a health hazzard! I immedately felt sick to my stomach. I thought "this place made what is in my mouth? YUCK!" The windows were covered in dust, the carpet was stained, there was a strange smell, it was just dirty.

Anyway I went it and sat in a chair and he took my dentures out, looked at them and put them back in. He said there was nothing wrong with them, that it was just a settling in period and I would get used to them.

But the thing I kept saying was, I had no say in the way they were going to look and he kept replying you don't need to have a say in it, "we do it all for you" and if i wanted to change the look of them I would have to pay for a new set.

I was furious!

So when I got home, I started doing reasearch on the internet. I found the New Zealand Dental Council website and learnt all about the rules, regulations and qulificatons, Dentists and Clinical Dental Technitions (they are people who make dentures direct to the public) need.

With all this information in mind i looked for a Clinical Dental Technition, who fitted all the requriements. I found the Denturetech website.

They were fantastic people! My new dentures look so natural! They aren't the straight hollywood style, they have character! But the best bit, I was totally involved in the desigining process!

I am thrilled with them.

So my fellow friends who are in the market for new Dentures or your first dentures, my advice is to do your homework! Make sure the person you are seeing is registered and has up to date qulifications and gaurantees their work. Dont let your denture buying story turn into another horror story, where you are left feeling uncomfortable and ripped off.

Good luck!
