Starship Foundation - Annual Appeal

Starship Children’s Health is focused on giving sick children from across New Zealand and the Pacific, the best chance possible. The Starship Foundation is a charity set up to provide additional equipment, support and help to patients, their families and staff - as an extra to state funding. This is only possible through the generosity of loyal donors and the strength of their support of Starship Children's Hospital.

Starship Hospital is one of the country’s most recognised icons and treats close to 100,000 patients each year from every town and city in New Zealand and also around the Pacific. It is the national centre for a wide variety of specialist services. With the support of our donors, we have been able to boost these varied areas of child health - from antenatal and newborn services through to other complex services like intensive care, heart, cancer and neurosurgery. We also pride ourselves on helping fund preventative community based initiatives such as diabetes prevention and support Puawaitahi, the only multi-service child abuse agency in the country; as well as supporting research initiatives to help keep our children from getting sick.

But it's not all about big pieces of equipment or high-tech units. We use donated airpoints to help staff with ongoing medical education and supply donated new clothes and toys to families in desperate need. To help take patients' minds off their illnesses, we supply televisions, videos and DVDs to the wards, as well as musical and play equipment.

We are also proud to have refurbished Starship's central Atrium in the heart of the hospital, themed around a New Zealand Rainforest. It offers a calming area away from the busy and often stressful clinical areas.

Valued supporters and donors help the Starship Foundation make a significant difference to the lives of seriously ill children. Funds are raised through a number of ways, including our regular mailings of newsletters and appeals, events such as our Annual Charity Gala Ball, and generous sponsorships from a variety of top New Zealand companies. We are also the grateful recipient of many community based events and grants from various trusts and foundations.

The team at the Starship Foundation is committed to making the impossible possible for children's health - but we couldn't do it without our generous supporters. Please give generously to help support our worthy cause.

Starship Foundation Annual Appeal and Street Collection

Each year Starship’s national air retrieval service rushes top medical experts to over 200 life-threatening emergencies around the country.  These vary from complications arising from normal childhood illnesses such as the flu to accidents (drowning, car crashes, sporting injuries); as well as children suffering from heart conditions, seizures and meningitis.

Starship Foundation’s Annual Appeal is raising funds to boost Starship’s national air retrieval service, in particular a new transport system comprising of a ventilator and incubator to transfer the most critically-ill newborn babies from around New Zealand to Starship’s Intensive Care Units for lifesaving care.

Look out for street appeal collectors in your area on Friday 11th April.  Alternately donations to the appeal can be made in the following ways: phone 0900 STARSHIP (0900 782 774) to donate $20, text STARSHP to 469 to donate $3, visit www.starship.org.nz/donation
