The New Zealand Family and Foster Care Federation (NZFFCF) is a non profit voluntary organisation made up of local foster care associations, individual members and s396 agencies. The Federation aims to provide support, advocacy and assistance to families involved in foster care. It works with foster carers, whanau and kinship carers to maintain children within their birth family within New Zealand, and to improve the quality of substitute family care of infants, children and young persons in New Zealand.
Do you want recognition for your knowledge, skills and experience as a caregiver?
Gain nationally recognized qualifications by completing the NZQA Certificate in Family / Whanau Foster Care through provider Te Kai Awhina Ahumahi.
These qualifications may be gained through workplace assessment which allows foster carers to continue in their role as caregivers whilst working towards a qualification. The training gained through the National Caregiver Training Programme and everyday work as a foster carer, provides the foster carer with the evidence needed to test their knowledge, skills, and values as a foster carer.
The subsequent award of a qualification that is registered on the National Qualifications Framework means that they will become recognised as a competent caregiver.

When an allegation is made concerning your care of a child or young person, CYF has a statutory responsibility to investigate it. The investigation should be fair, transparent and time-limited.
Whether you are caring for a child or young person on behalf of the Chief Executive of CYF, or Open Home Foundation, Barnardos, IHC or another Child and Family Support Service, an Iwi Social Service, Cultural Social Service or as a Whanau / Kin Carer, allegations must be investigated.
It is alarming for an allegation to be made about the way you care for a child or young person. It should be recognized that many allegations are found to be unsubstantiated although none the less difficult to work through.
NZFFCF have a key role in offering professional support to foster carers if an allegation of abuse is made against you.
