When my wife retired early this year, we had trouble finding out what services and activities were available in our area. As a result we decided to set up a site with all this information in the one place. In order to do this we needed an interactive page where suggestions could be posted, one of the suggestions was to start a Skype Club. Many supported living properties in both Australia and New Zealand have skype available as a means of contact with family so this type of club seemed a logical extension of that, especially when the Australia government were funding an “internet for Seniors” program.
Bribie Island has long been a popular spot for both holidays and retirement for older people from New Zealand, United Kingdom and North America. We have a much more laid back life style than the Gold or Sunshine Coast, a beautiful surf beach or the more gentle waters of the Pumicestone passage. Thus it seemed logical for us to invite people from these Countries to join us.
Many older folk are lonely and bored but don't make new friends for a variety of reasons, this is a way to make friends at a distance and get to know them and perhaps visit once they feel comfortable.
