somone asked me if it is safe to give dogs chicken bones. I have been giving mine raw chicken bones prefably the comercial type sold in super markets not from Poultry farms etc. I buy the chicken frames and chop them up and let the dogs have a good feed they love them and they are a great source of calcium etc I DO NOT GIVE COOKED CHICKEN BONES OR CHOP BONES THEY ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!!!.

Hi unicorn Nana
Yes mine do sleep with me they make lovely hotwater bottles at least they do not go cold during the night! Mine do not send out evil smelling farts after, I usually feed mine about 2pm each day. don't blame him for crying poor chap!!! Hey some human farts are worse than dogs???
Honestly raw chicken frames are wonderful for the teeth and gums also raw beef brisket bones. My lot rarely have any serious dental problems.
anyway unicorn Nana thanks for your comments great stuff!

I have a recipe my Staffy loves.
1 cup flour 1 cup wholemeal flour 1 cup mince.. Rub altogether and make into a dough with 1/2 cup oil. 1 egg. and enough water. I add. stock powder mixed in the water. with marmite. 1 teasp molasses or treacle also any seasonings, Garlic, kelp brewers yeast. no salt. or onions.
You can make drop biscuits, or spread in a flat tin and bake 180 about 30 mins. after 20 mins I put grated cheese on top for the last 10 Cut into small bits when cool.

Thank you Lemin I made your recipe [ posted ages ago ] for dog biscuits. I made them last year and my Bichon and my grandsons Rotwieller loved them, well the baking bug has caught me again and of coarse I could not find the recipe in all my numerous cooking books. Lo and behold as a last ditch effort I looked back through the GU's sight and God Bless there was your recipe!!!! So I am off to the supermarket tomorrow to get the ingrediants.

Hi, we are the owners of a 2 year old choc. lab. which had fairly major problems with allergies - coat, ears and scratching. Feeling a bit desperate with vet fees, etc. we did some online searching and came up with a highly recommended dry food product called Canidae. This product is made in the USA and distributed in Christchurch - free delivery. It does cost a little more than the regular food, but has natural ingredients, including some herbs and no fillers, and dogs can be fed less because of this. Even though Canidae is a complete food, we do give our dog a very small amount of fresh meat and often some vegs. e.g. carrots, apples, silverbeet, spincah, etc., the exception being onions. Being a lab everything is gulped down very quickly. Our recent visit to the vets for her annual check and jabs made us feel so proud as we were told we had a very healthy dog with an excellent coat. How's that! We also give her the odd treat and raw bone.
Some friends of ours have recommended "Flee Flea" for fleas . This is a natural product and can be used for both dogs and cats. Even though we haven't found any fleas on our pets, we will be trialling this product, which has to be better than chemical applications.

My dog was allergic to Wandering Jew. He had a terrible red rash of lumps all down his tummy. The Te Puke vet gave me a homeopathic remedy that worked and we haven't had one repeat of the nightmare that was very expensive - none of the pills and potions worked before the homeopathic remedy. Tomas is well and healthy 10 years on from that allergy.
