BD, I Totally agree. Also we need this Lobbying Disclosure Bill The publics expectation of transparency is growing..for both government and business. Why did John Banks receive 5 donations of exactly $25,000 If anything it suggests he is purposely hiding over major donors as well. It should be open and transparent who is donating what no matter what Party.
Skycity disclosed their donation publicly Len Brown disclosed it. John Banks did not.

Transparency in Government is an oxymoron, just like 'honest politician' is. The police will never charge him even though a complaint has been made. A case was proven against Helen Clark for forgery but charges were never laid, and then it was her driver's who were charged over the speeding motocade and not the boss. The buck always stops well short of the MP's. And don't forget that Banks was once Minister of Police.

Cut from Stuff today: ""I can tell you that when I signed my declaration for the mayoralty I signed it in good faith in the knowledge as justice of the peace as true and correct. " (John Banks).
What is he saying? It's not clear but it seems to be saying, he signed his own statutory declaration, as a JP? Have I read this right? And, if so, surely that's not appropriate?
I do know one thing. JPs are not allowed to 'use' their standing in the community to serve their own ends. In this context, I don't think he should have even mentioned he is a JP. I mean, why would you unless you were trying to show you were a fine upstanding citizen?

I hear that if John Banks called Dotcom to thank him for his anonymous donation he might indeed be in trouble by law. There will be records of all.

John Banks can rest easy knowing John Key needs his vote to get the asset sales legislation through.

...and maybe even the budget, eh, Hero??
And Arandar,
"I do know one thing. JPs are not allowed to 'use' their standing in the community to serve their own ends. In this context, I don't think he should have even mentioned he is a JP. I mean, why would you unless you were trying to show you were a fine upstanding citizen? "
I definitely got the feeling when I watched Banks say that, that he was trying to impress us with the fact that he is a JP, kinda like name dropping, if you know what I mean. I'm not sure about whether he meant to say he was signing the document (in the sense of witnessing a declaration) as a JP or not. I have often found that JB speaks in riddles, kinda like he finds the English language a bit of a challenge.

Dr L
It is reported that John Banks phoned Dotcom when the cheques cleared. If that is the caase then all the police need to do is get the cheques and see the account they came from and who signed them.
If it is Dotcom's account there is no way John Banks can deny knowledge.
Unless he is going to blame it on his campaign staff for not telling him.

John has the Maori Party to get his budget through as they have promised to support Confidence and Supply votes but not to vote for Asset sales.

Do you honestly believe that John Banks is stupid. He would have to be if he was naive enough to believe he could get away with underhand dealings.???????

I think perhaps its time for a new law, stipulating that ALL contributions to political parties/politicians will not be accepted unless the donor is named.
