Don't know if I like this. More info needed Len Brown....

""Auckland mayor's multi-billion dollar inner city rail project could get Chinese funding.

Len Brown is just back from China and says Chinese investors are interested in private partnership arrangements on big infrastructure projects like the rail, second harbour crossing and roading.

He says they're also interested in energy projects.

"Presently in Auckland we're looking at the possibility of wind turbine developments or also tidal turbine developments. Now whatever the rights or wrongs for those projects, Chinese investors are seriously interested in the potential returns in New Zealand."

Len Brown says the Chinese like New Zealand's stability and know they can invest long term with a high level of security around that investment.""

What do ya reckon gang ??

Cheers. biggrin

I reckon we're being over run by them. Are we making sure that enough of the profits stays in this country ? And here's a thought, if the Chinese are willing to sink money into this project, ( and they will be taking money off shore back to China ) how come local investors can't be found, thus keeping the money in Godzone ?

At least the Chineses are paying cash for the farms. It is sad that the money will have to be used to pay the debts instead of John Keys investing it in one of his favourite Investment houses.

If the powers that be are so stupid, when organising this deal that they missed an important possible bonus in the buyers favour, then we are paying high salaries to incompetents.

I'm in favour of utilising wind/tidal turbines if that's feasible. And to afford them perhaps some overseas investment may be needed - BUT overseas investment from whatever country should never make up a majority of the funding. And if we can't afford it,then we must do without until we can.
