What a pain Kai. I have bought at the City Library sales and they do the same with random stamps through the pages. No more greater disappointment than a loved book or magazine proving that it was bought cheaply. I have bought a few books by NZ authors at the brand new price by Michael King , Keri Hulme and Janet frames Poetry. They cost around $40.
I have lent them and others to people and of course they are mostly sitting in other bookshelves as borrowers are not the most honest in the world. On line at Amazon and Fispond it is possible to buy second hand in very good condition at reasonable cost. As I read once "Nothing worth having is free"

Joybel Thanks for your reply..
I bought a Michael King NZ book last week in beautiful condition for its age ,,,and had only a peel off price sticker on front which came off with warm water and washed with a Wet one all over to get rid of dust,.
Looks like brand new ,we are all enjoying reading it,, had a wee sticker inside front cover from 1989 which came off as well....
$23 .99
I got it for 50c
so that was really neat ,,,and can glean lots of info from just that one item.
I must say as a young one,,, Books werent my thing really, and dog, eared the pages on the few books I ever read as a teen.
Must say now I am OLDER
and wiser
Well Older anyway

On the "National Library of NZ" website under school suppliers you will find people who are in the book covering business, these people know all the tricks and you will find they are happy to assist.

I buy a few retro NZ books when I can for Research, and one of the places does their prices with felt tip pen strokes sort of like !!!thru the book part opposite the spine??

I want to be able to get rid of those cos they mark the book ..
Any suggestions please???
There are also magazines at another place,,,they mark with permanant marker the price on the front ..
With those the word permanant tells me its there to stay..
Any help please any one who is a reader or carer of books
Cheers Kai
