I have had both Knees done it is the best thing i have had done.
first knee 2Yrs ago second knee 18 months ago.
best advice I can give is do every thing they say to do and a bit more if
you can. I was lucky to walk about 500 metres before, now walk about 4Km most days. Any questions just put them up & I will try to answer.

Hi,
Great news, Gilbert. Hope yours goes well, Surferman. I wonder if anyone has such good news about hip replacements which I am due to have but keep putting off! Here is a tip, Surferman.
One of the exercises usually given after knee replacements is a "treadle" action to strengthen the muscles around the joint. You can now buy a small, soft, inflatable which makes this action so easy and is a constant reminder beside my chair to do it. Called an Aircycle, it has many other uses too - for boosting circulation and relieving swollen ankles and cramps and for arthritic, joint and lower back pain. I always take it on long flights and I use it under my computer desk too for keeping the circulation going. You should find it on the web if you are interested.

Hi - I had a knee replacement 1 yr ago - if you can lose excess weight - the most important thing is to do everything they tell you i.e. the exercises are a must before and after - go in with a positive frame of mind - I did all of the above only spent 4 days in Hospital - morning after the op I had 90 degree bend. I know everyone is different but all of the above certainly helped me. My new knee is just great. Good luck!

Hi all Janni, did you purchase your "Aircycle" off the internet? I think I have seen a similar thing advertised in the "Innovations" catalogue, must have a look as I suffer frequently from swollen ankles and lower legs especially in hot humid weather and travelling. I have just returned off a 25 night cruise and I came back with my ankles looking like a couple of great footballs !!! so it might pay me to have a look around for one of those "Aircycles". I will have plenty of time to use it as I am having a total knee-replacement this Thursday. I am normally very active walking around 4km a day but of late I am lucky to hobble a measley 100mtrs

Replacement knees make life a lot better!!! I have had both knees replaced over the last 6 years and the second one was better as I lost weight before and was a lot fitter. You just have to push yourself Good luck every one and have a great day

I had two total Knee replacements within 5 months in 1997 at age 55. At the time I had health insurance so had them done privately. There were lots of exercises to do afterwards and visits to the physio. All worthwhile though. 14 years later and not one bit of trouble with them. Until it is mentioned I dont even think about it. I must say I had a very supportive husband who was working from home at the time and really encouraged and helped me with the excercises for a wonderful result.
Hope all is going well for you evai and isa.
Cheers

P.S. I did find an excercycle very helpful for some time.
