I have a GGGF (James Fitzpatrick) who was an Irish soldier and married my GGGM (Elizabeth Smith) in 1864 in Otahuhu. She was the daughter of a Fencible, Henry Smith, also Irish.
Their first child (Maria) was born in Otahuhu 1865, but the next 2 (Henry & Edward) were born in Melbourne 1868 and 1870, whilst the next (Ellen) was born in Wales in 1872.
I have James & Elizabeth plus Maria,Henry & Edward in the 1871 census at the Nether Hallam barracks in Sheffield.
In their death certificates, there are another 5 children!
James was a Chemist, according to birth and death certificates. Could he have been in the Army in that role?
Can anyone help me on this? James was born 1842 at Maryborough, Queens Co. Elizabeth born 1844 at Co. Monaghan.
