This may never be read, I know, but here goes. My friend owns one of those small cars called a Wagon which is favoured by older ladies. For five years the maintenance and repairs were carried out at no cost to her. Recently it was collected and taken for its W.O.F. It was shock to be told that it needed two new tyres and a wheel alignment. When she asked the cost, it was $750. Of course she paid up as she needs the car.

On scutinising the bill she found the tyres were $200 ea. and the warrant cost the usual price. So she asked what the other $300 was for. Labour, he said. The tyres have to be the smallest in the market and $200 ea. is a lot of money. What does a wheel alignment entail apart from putting a tyre on and balancing it?
$300 for labour, pull the other leg. A one to two man job taking an hour. What wages are these guys on.?

I would recommend a independant tyre company such as Tonys tyre service or other such company who should look after you and not rip you off.Tyres should have cost approx. $100-125ea.$60-70 for a full wheel alignment, which is different than just a wheel balance which is done when new trye fitted at no cost. All up $320 approx. So may I suggest you ring around a few places first and see who will give you tthe best deal. All the best Cheers.

I got two new tyres and a wheel alignment about 18 months ago for my Honda Accord and it cost $258 for the tyres, including labour, fitting and balancing and $75 for the wheel alignment. That was at Beaurepaires in Taupo. Joybel your friend paid way too much.

CB cool

Joybel I have owned and still own a 1992 ford Festiva, now the quirky thing about this little gas miser is it has a special small tyre that is reasonably difficult to get and costs more than the more common brands, I think I have done what a lot of others have and now have fitted a more common brand, the tyre is bigger and the speedometer may read 51 instead of 50 but I can get a better deal and a tyre off the shelf at a good price.

A wheel alignment is a separate item and is done on a specialist machine, it is unfortunately essential to have this done because if the wheel alignment is not correct it will badly effect tyre wear, balancing needs to be done as well but the cost of that is minimal (Tony's) I think last time was about $8 per wheel.
