Apparently there was one about 5.43pm yesterday here too in Southland, 5 something. The same fault area at Tuatapere, it's been rumbling since that big one in July CB. Didn't feel it, must be getting used to them.

We don't need quakes, just not used to them

The Taupo earthquakes were very shallow Cookybaby. Even though they were small quakes, the first was 5km deep and the last two were only 3km deep - that's why you were woken. Not nice! But one consolation, at least the pressure buildup has eased instead of building and erupting in one huge shake.

Yes, I looked them up on Geonet. Maybe better to have some small ones than a great big sucker!

Hi OKK,
I bet you felt that one in Inungahua in '67! (if you were down that way then) I felt it and I was in New Plymouth at the time.

I was in Stoke (Nelson) with the Inungahua earthquake.....thought a blinking train was coming down the valley. Ended up in bed with husband, 2 kids, and 2 cats from 5am onwards.

Yep, we lived on the Coast then, our chimney was cracked and we had a vege garden full of large cabbages and the quake shook them so hard that they all ended up on the ground with broken stalks. Otherwise we suffered no damage, but a friend lost her father in the aftermath, he was a taxidriver and was speeding to Runanga to check on family and the over bridge on the way had it's approaches lowered by nearly 2 feet. He hit it and unfortunately died at the scene.

Mat 24:7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

The gods of the underworld were really throwing it around last night! Three earthquakes in about 4 hours! All in the same area, 10 kms Northwest of Taupo. They were minor ones but enough to wake you!
