We up here in the north island can only sit and watch and HOPE our friends in the south are all well and uninjured!
I've spent most of the morning watching it unfold on TV and the thought keeps popping up that I hope nobody I know is hurt!
KEEP WELL!

Hi All,
I have rung Joybel and Ocker, can't get hold of Aggie,, but I rang a number that I thought was Joybel and it was someone in bishopdale, which is the same area that Aggie lives in.
A lady answered, and said that she was ok, so I can only assume that Aggie is ok in the same area, but is out looking after her family - as she would.
First the phone rang engaged and I was pleased to hear that because she was ok if she was on the phone, then it rang, and sounded as though she would answer, but it then cut off.
I tried and tried, and all the time I had tears gushing out of my eyes and down my cheeks, so I could hardly ring the the number. and I STILL can't get hold of her, so I don't know how my bestest bestest friend on Grownups is.
All I can do is keep trying.
Ocker was going to go out and see if he could find something to eat for dinner that would have to be cold because he has no power, but he has phone. He is nearest to the centre of the city of all the people on grownups who I have the ability to contact.
Got to go and try Aggie again.

What a terrible thing an earthquake is - we are on the first floor and I thought we would end up down in our neighbour's living room. I have never been so terrified. We have been lucky, we have had a few breakages, but nothing major. The road in to where I live is a mess, we had trouble getting through. I do hope you have caught up with Aggie, AP. We have power but no water, might have to drink wine instead, how sad!

I'm so pleased to hear that you are ok Desi, and at least you have power. Poor old Ocker with no power, and no gas in his bottle to fire up his gas heater. Bad weather forecast too for your area. I hope it doesn't happen, you've had enough trauma without the added inconvenience of bad weather.
I assume Dr L. is ok too. (you don't co-habitate do you).
I have tried Aggie again, and now I'm getting an engaged signal, so can only keep trying.
In an email from her last night she wasn't feeling the best, with coloured lights in her right eye, so I hope THAT came right before the quake.
No doubt if it didn't, she would have worse things to think about AFTER the quake that it might have gone without her even realising it at this stage.
I'll sign ff here now, and go and try again, but if she talks to everyone as long as she talks to me for, she wil be engaged for a long time
Cheers all, Annie

Glad you ChCh folk are OK. I heard all the people ringing in on the radio as I lay in bed after a slight shake here. Found out later that my families were safe, but one had chimney fall through roof and ceiling damage. Very frightening especially for young grandchildren.
Just heard on TV1 that people with damage should turn power off at mains so that when it comes on their house wont burn down.

Well Im back !!
no damage to speak of in my place , BUT me mate in Edgeware , got a lot of damage , plus theres a lot of old houses that have them double brick walls when they're close to boundaries , well they all fell down
me mates neighbour had the whole side wall fall when he scrambled out of bed , then CRASHH !! the huge chimney came thro' the roof and ceiling and crushed the bed they'd been sleeping in

It is such a mess Ocker, we have heard of two families whose houses have been declared unsafe. The block of shops at Westminister and Cranford St has gone and Kaiapoi is a disaster area. I couldn't believe it when I got home, I expected to find everything on the floor but it was fine. At least it is not raining.

What a relief you are OK Okker but... next year when you are celebrating your birthday could you please be a little more circumspect? Now the whole world knows the earth moved for you

By the way... Happy Birthday
