Is there anyone in Auckland who plays this game? I have moved here recently and would love to link up with some other players.

Hi, Bows - I think we met on another thread (motivation stuff)?? I sometimes come to Auckland and play Catan with a friend there. I have also been playing online recently and really enjoying that. If you ping me an email (hem@xtra.co.nz) we can swap phone numbers if you would like to chat.

It is a great game - Have all the extensions and am playing them with various friends in Chch. So - if anyone from this area wants to make contact then that would be great too.

Catan is a wonderful, strategic board game where dice are used to gain resources (you have territory that generates the resources based on the throw of the dice). Then with the resources you build more territory). Basically the game is a strategic race to get up to a set number of resources. But it is also sort of collaborative because you can trade resources with other players.

It is much more fun than monopoly as you have many more options about what to do - also everyone scores off every dice throw because you gain resources based on what is thrown. I just love it - I have two or three friends who are also hooked - one lives in Auckland and others here.

I also play online. I am surprised that it is not being discussed on GrownUps! Perhaps we will start a trend. The basic box is quite expensive to buy (not much less than $100) and it is not available in all shops that sell games. An online search will find a local supplier though.

Give a yell if you would like to talk more.
