If you are approaching retirement age and you don't own your own home, then you had better soon 'sell the family jewels' or keep working because you will be about $65 per week worse off than home owning pensioners.

Read about a NZ study at GrownUps
http://www.grownups.co.nz/read/health/health_wellbeing/why-pensioners-stay-in-bed

And don't think that that is the end of the story. Even pensioners who own their own homes and have no other form of income will find that NZ Superannuation doesn't cover the costs of heating your home in winter ..... or maybe you will eat less.

So who is going to fix the problem? With the demise of NZ First political party, no other party appears interested.

What can you do? We have to make the underfunding of pensioners a topic that political parties will sit-up and take notice.

Inspire me with your actions

The grey vote is huge so we have power, the unity is lacking.

The subject of Super is interesting in that Govt will say its intended to provide a percentage of the average wage.I have never seen it expressed the other way. What is the pension meant to provide. Those who follow grey power will note the constant stating that no politics are involved or particular parties aare supported. With the growing number of super beneficiaries its time perhaps to get a little political. As a start why not write to your M.P. and ask him or her what the pension is meant to provide.... To the Barricades my friends......Ronan

Lemin was right, apathy is the enemy here!
Other self interest groups get what they want because they organize and get involved, stir up trouble.
Many ex activists are now running state owned enterprises or are in other taxpayer funded positions.
The problem is that the poli's think that time will take care of the grey majority as we die off, therefore none are interested.
And it's our own fault we did not provide enough financially for our own retirement anyway.confused
