Hiya all again. A wee while ago I asked about shops etc in Ferry Rd Christchurch in 60s n 70s??? I am still looking for info please, if anyone has photos or newspaper pics etc of that time??? I also am interested in life in the city in the 60s. E.G. any pics of grocers stores inside or out that our Mums shopped at ,or sent us to as kiddies!!! Fashions, transport, dances, bands etc?? I have tried all the avenues suggested .Thanks for those and I keep researching, for family not for $$$$. The cities of N.Z. have changed so much over the years, and coming back nearly need a map for to find the old places !!! Love the site so many n varied threads!!

Cheers Kai

I was in ChCh in that time kai, so taking a while for the brain to turn back. Dances early 1960's. The 'Latimer' in the Square, there were some others I would have to think about. I worked for Alec Farrar an Engineering, Castings Co. near corner of Madras and Ferry Road think he bought that corner block later, it came to a point at High St. There was a motor accessories place on the corner, and a fruit & vegie market a bit further down in Ferry Road. Opposite was a pub, called in after work was still 6pm closing. Then I worked for Collin's bakeries who had a number of lunch bars around the city. Also 'The Pussy Willow' lunchbar/milkbar near the corner of Colombo and Cashel St. Ballyntines on the opposite corner. Woolworths and McKenzies were still operating. I worked for Woolworths in Sydenham for extra cash one Christmas, on the Pick n Mix sweets counter with the new cream freeze machine at one end. We dressed for dances in fancy dresses 3/4 lenght full skirts, with stockings, stoles and long gloves. Once disco's late 60's 70's took over the ballroom dancing petered off. Coloured strobe lights, and dancing became a gyration, with fashions bright and gaudy, hot pants, long skirts, midis and minis.
